The article discusses the AFGE and its Council of Prison Locals backing new legislation for a one-time pay adjustment for correctional officers and staff, a move that is desperately needed given the Bureau of Prisons’ severe staffing crisis. This situation is a direct consequence of years of neglect and underfunding, which has only worsened under Trump’s administration. It’s astonishing that we are even having to advocate for the basic needs of those who keep our prisons safe and secure. Instead of prioritising the welfare of correctional officers who work tirelessly in often dangerous conditions, Trump has consistently chosen to undermine the very institutions that uphold the rule of law and public safety. His administration's focus on dismantling essential services and cutting funding has left these professionals in a lurch, and now they are left fighting for basic pay adjustments. This is not just a matter of financial compensation; it’s about respect and recognition for the critical role they play in our society. We should be outraged that these public servants have to lobby for their own livelihoods while the former president continues to undermine the values we hold dear. This is a clear indication of how Trump’s policies have failed to support those who serve our communities. We must hold our leaders accountable and ensure that those who protect us are not left behind. Read more here:

Totally agree with you... it’s infuriating that correctional officers are left fighting for basic pay while Trump was busy undermining institutions that are crucial for public safety... it shows a complete lack of respect for those who keep our communities safe... they deserve better than this neglect and it’s a shame that they have to advocate for their own livelihoods...
